Child 5 yr old having juvenile diabetic problem is that he have been angry ,throwing all goods near
---------------------------------------------------
I have a daughter who was dxed at age 2 so I understand your frustration.
Your child does not have autism. He is angry about shots and blood tests that he doesn't understand.
Try to get a teddy bear that also needs blood tests and insulin.Let him treat the bear.[ use water for insulin.]
One trick that worked for me was to put one gummy bear [ 0 carbs for one ] right on the machine. He gets the candy when he doesn't fuss or the bear goes back in the bag. After a while he will forget about it but this can be helpful in the beginning.
Check out support groups for parents and programs for kids with diabetes.
At a parent support group I used to attend, our conversations often turned to " How do we get blood off the wall ?"
Once a kid runs after the finger prick, they have blood to paint with .I remember those days well.
Another good idea is to tell him about 3 minutes before a test or insulin. That way he is prepared and you don't just grab him and scare him.He can help you cook or set the table. Then he has a vested interest in eating. He can stir a salad, put ingredients into a bowl or put spoons on the table.
Good luck and best wishes.
