Sugar is not your biggest worry. You must learn what causes pre diabetes. It's not just sugar. It's too many refined carbs (including sugar) and animal fats clogging up your cell walls. With a diet that has a high nutrition to calorie ratio (more vegetables and fruits), you can reduce the effects of insulin resistance to the point where diabetes becomes pretty much a non issue. Continue with the high carb and fat to low nutrient ratio, and I can guarantee that your diabetes will become full blown in just a few years. How do I know this? I watched helplessly as my sugars slowly rose and nearly got out of control... despite what I thought was a good diet and plenty of exercise. Since I learned more from the likes of Dr. Fuhrman and Barnard and added more fruits to my diet, my sugars went down, not up. Turns out it has to do with how different types of sugar affect our body. Natural sugar in fruits (mostly fructose) are broken down and utilized differently than table sugar and refined carbs like in doughnuts, for example. They have a much lower glycemic index (the tendency to cause a rapid rise in blood glucose). Since I learned all this, my blood glucose has stabilized and I'm off the Metformin. I've been (mostly) drug free for 12 days, now.
