A look of history of ethnic groups who are more prone diabetic candidates could trace this to where they started. Most had low sugar intake, but very active life styles and lived more or less just a above the subsistence level. The life spans were much shorter.
Now the have diets that are very rich in sugar or carbs. I believe their body's have not adjusted to the rich diet. Also they life longer and more sedate lives. So what they eat is not burned up. I believe they live longer that their body organs can support. We all have organs that fail in one way or another due to age. So as we become more afluent and live longer we need learn how to take care of ourselves better. We still have diet guide as though we live on a farm and not in a populated city environment
