The whole object of checking to see if you have GD is to have a healthy happy baby and mom at the end of the pregnancy!!! It is NOT for your convenience or expense of the meters or things like that. When I was at your age, they did NOT check for GD. There was a line on the personal info page that asked "are you diabetic". They discouraged women from getting pregnant then, and did little to help them with the pregnancy if they did have an "accident".This is purely to help you be healthy at the end of the pregnancy and hopefully deliver a LIVE baby that is small enough to deliver vaginally!!If you don't follow the food plan and do the testing and if they advise insulin - take it as heaven sent, then you are at risk for having a baby that is over 9 pounds and will probably be unhealthy.Come ON!!! this is for your health and for the baby's health. And besides drinking that syrupy gaggy junk will raise your glucose if you are subject to it anyway. It doesn't matter what you eat before the testing day!! That day you are to eat NOTHING before drinking the syrup. It will cause whatever mischief it can with your system. Nothing will change that. It's not so much the eating carbs as it is soda and candy...if you can stay away from the sugar and maybe cut out some pasta you should be ok...i had GD when i was pregnant and it was because of my candy cravings. The crazy amounts of sugar in the stuff I ate caused mine. Just relax, take a deep breathe and be confident in yourself.
